Humans & Lines (2019)
The options are clear; we can either smile at life and all the experiences that we have endured in the past or become pessimistic about the future ahead and bitter about the past. Each option will create different expressions within ourselves, along other lines. The crease of a smile that forms on the surface or a frown. The wrinkles on one’s forehead from all of the stress. The posture of one’s spine from being hunched over all the time.
I have always been drawn toward elderly citizens when it comes to photographing different people. There is something about the way they conduct themselves. The way that they rarely seem to be in a rush. They don’t hasten but rather go about their daily lives slowly. They pay attention to the small minuscule details that our generations miss. They use their years of knowledge and wisdom to guide those younger than them, creating a set line to follow. They dwell heavily on their past and events that brought powerful emotions. Emotions of happiness, love, bliss, heartache, stress, and pain.
